GOVEUNOR'S MESSAGE.
Gentlemen of the Smate
and of the House of Mepresentalives:
I rejoice iliat our domestic afiairs afford, at oar pre«ent meeting, so much caiu.se ft^r mutual congra'iilalion and profound qratitude to the great Author <jf all ( Umd. Whilst pestilence and famine have wasted me EoLSiern Hemisphere, health and plenty have gmiled in all our borders. Labor, throughout its manifold departments, has prospered nud brought a rich reward. Learning, benevolence and religion, have thrmvn their roots wider and deeper into the foundations oi the social system. Temperance has extended, still more, her benign in¬ fluence over the erring and the lost; and, as a consequence, general good order has prevailed, and crimes have diminished dirougboat the State.
During the year that h post, tbe several denartmcnls of the State Govemmeni have discharged their respective duties with faithfulness and success, as will, in due time, appear from their reports.
As the very circumstantial and able communication of the Auditor will immediately he laid lx?fore you. showing our revenues to be in a highly prosperous condittou. 1 shall conieint myself with the Ibllowing^ brief slatement of the receipts and di5<bur!M?mentfl of the fiscal year ending on th© I5thday of November, 1847.
