Description	Governor Charles Foster delivered an annual message to the General Assembly of Ohio on Jan. 1, 1883. These 17 pages are included in part 1 of the 1882 Executive Documents. Foster, a Republican, was Ohio’s 35th governor, serving two terms from 1880 to 1884. He supported gold redemption of paper currency and was elected on this sound money platform. During his administration, Foster worked to bring business methods into the state economy. Foster also supported the temperance movement by favoring a high tax on liquor. Following his terms as governor, he served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Benjamin Harrison.
