Inventory of the James McBride Papers ( 1 box, circa 1828- 1848) The papers of James McBride ( 1788- 18591 consists of one box containing four volumes ( see attached sheet for description), a printed pamphlet Cats- Jwue of the McBride Library &_ Cabinet, and four folders of miscellaneous papers as follows: Felder one: Unbound volume entitled Ancient Works at Cincinnati ( Now Obliterated), 13 pp, Folder two: Miscellaneous manuscripts including one l e t t e r trr McBride, 7 pieces. Folder three: Mfscel~ aneous sketches of archaeoloqical artifacts, perhaps prepared by McBrkde. Folder four: L i s t of James McBride archaeological speciments i n the W i l l i a m 5. Vaux Collection, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. Vexifax copies of pages 44- 69 from the AcademyYs accession records, ethnological collections. Note: See Better, April 1, 1849, of John Johnston ( bound in volume Bearing binder's t i t l e Ancient Workst including sketch of an ancient workon the farm of John Johnston a t Upper Piqua, Miami County, Ohi~. The McBride papers came to the Ohio Historicel Society In August, 1960. A t the time of McBrideqs death, W i l l i a m S. Vaux purchased much of the McBride collection at auction, which Re in turn willed to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia i n the 1880%. The manuscripts described above were - not the property of Vaux ( see collections f i l e for the copy of George V a w T l e t t e r , March 27, 1883, to Edward J. Nolan) but have been held by the Academy as part of the collection and transferred on permanent loan to the Ohio Bistorical Society, along with selected a r t i f a c t s , through the cooperation of George Qaax, B m Mam, Pa., grand nephew of the senior Vaux, and H. Rad-clyffe Rohrts, director, Academy of Nature1 Sciences.
