Biographical sketch: John Daniel Frederick Cranz was born i n Wurternk, urg, German, July 111, $ 790. He received a master's degree a t the Uni- versity of Tubingen c i r c a 1814 and served as an assistant: v i c a r and pasi: c) r ( S t a d t p f a r r e r ) in several German v i l l a g e s . Cranz's brothers, t h e family iirmigrated t o America i n 1834 and headed for 1ll. i. noi. s. A drought, however, made the Ohio River unnavigable anc? the Cranz's stopped i n Columbus, Ohio. A t t h e urging of a friend Crnnz bought a 100 acre farm near Winesburg i n Holmes County. After a few years, Cranz rented h i s farm t o sharecroppers in order t o tak. e up the ministry again. The c o l l e c t i o n also includes copies of four l e t t e r s w r i t t e n by Capital University p r o f e s s o r s C a r l Vogel and James Toedtman which describe the con-t e n t s of t h e volumes.
