Harry M. Daugherty papers prior to 1956. Photocopies of
related correspondence held by several other repositories were
added to the collection at a later date. Kay Weisman processed
the collection in May 1979.

three letters and one speech by Harry M. Daugherty in its
vertical file materials ( VFM 1599, 1869 and 2499), as well
as a personal ledger of Daugherty's brother, Ma1 S. Daugherty
( VOL 182).
Biographical sketch: Harry Micajah Daugherty was born January
26, 1860 in Washington Court House, Ohio. Educated in local
public schools, he graduated with a law degree from the
University of Michigan in 1881. He practiced Law alone for
eleven years and held several minor public offices in Ohio
early in his career.
Daugherty exerted a strong influence on the Republican party
in Ohio although he was never elected to an office higher
than state assemblyman. He was the main thrust behind Warren
G. Harding, managing Warding's campaigns for lieutenant
governor, governor, and president. President Harding appointed
Daugherty Attorney General in 1921.
