The f i r m ' s name, J a c o b s B r o t h e r s , d i s a p p e a r s from t h e Columbus
d i r e c t o r y a f t e r 1902- 1903. The p a p e r s i n t h i s c o l l e c t i o n cover
t h e p e r i o d from 1866 t o 1899.
O r i g i n a l l y l o c a t e d a t 15 West Broad S t . , J a c o b s B r o t h e r s ' o f f i c e
was l a t e r moved t o 60 l o r t h Bigh S t . , and t h e n t o 76 l o r t h Migh.
The f i r m ' s b u s t - e s s became a l m o s t e n t i r e l y s e l l i n g a g r i c u l t u r a l
implements and machines,
Meanwhile t h e b r o t h e r s a c q u i r e d o t h e r i n t e r e s t s . The p r i n c i p a l
one was a c o n n e c t i o n w i t h t h e Kilbourne. and J a c o b s Manufacturing
Co, e s t a b l i s h e d i n 1881. It had one of t h e l a r g e s t i n d u s t r i a l
p l a n t s i n Columbus i n t h e 1890s and 19008. Of it F e l i x A. was
V i c e - P r e s i d e n t , and Nenry L. was s u p e r i n t e n d e n t u n t i l h i s d e a t h
i n 1901.
The J a c o b s B r o t h e r s ' B u s i n e s s Records were r e c e i v e d by t h e
Ohio H i s t o r i c a l Gociety i n 1956. They w e r e f o u n d i n an o l d house,
and g i v e n to t h e S o c i e t y by R i c b a r d P a t t e r s o n . 282 Chatham Baad,
Columbus, 0. and Paul G r i f f i t h s .
P r i o r t o 1966 t h e c o I 1 e c t i o n w a s a r r a n g e d i n two s e r i e s of
b o x e s , o n e 1 a b e l l e d " L e t t e r s ," t h e o t h e r " I n v o i c e s ." In December,
1966, t h e two s e r i e s were c o n s o l i d a t e d , t h e " L e t t e r s " box and
t h e " I n v o i c e s " box of each y e a r b e i n g p l a c e d t o g e t h e r , as
