H u r l b u r t Lampson he attended t h e J e f f e r s o n p u b l i c schools b e f o r e
t r a n s f e r r l n g t o New Lyme I n s t i t u t e In New Lyme, Ohio. A f t e r
g r a d u a t i n g from New Lyme, he s t u d i e d a t O b e r l l n College and then
a t Western Reserve U n i v e r s i t y . During h l s second year o f c o l l e g e 8
Lampson r e t u r n e d t o J e f f e r s o n ? Ohio8 t o assume t h e task o f
managing t h e f a m i l y newspaper8 The J e f f e r s o n Ga7ette. He spent
o v e r s i x t y - o n e years, 1896- 19578' on t h e Gazette? most o f t h e time
as i t s ed l t o r .
Lampson a l s o was an amateur h i s t o r i a n and a c o l l e c t o r o f
h i s t o r i c a l m a t e r l a l s , He wrote a number o f pamphlets and books
r e l a t i n g t o t h e e a r l y h i s t o r y and s e t t l e m e n t o f t h e Western
Reserve. His i n t e r e s t i n I t s h i s t o r y a l s o led him t o c o l l e c t a l l
