HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION

Dr. John T. Booth ( 1842- 1922) was a resident of Hamilton County in Ohio, residing in
Wyoming and Cincinnati. He served in the Civil War, enlisting in the 36* OVI while a
student at Marietta College. Dudng the Spanish- American War, Booth served as head
physician at Ft. Myers.
Historv of the 36* Ohio Volunteer Infantrv
Lieutenant Colonel Clark organized this Regiment in August, 1861, and George Crook,
Captain of the 4* U. S. Infantry, was, at his request, assigned as Colonel. It had some
service in 1861- 62 in Western Virginia, and during the summer joined the Army of the
Potomac, losing Colonel Clark at Antietam. Returning to West Virginia again it soon left
Charleston for General Roseaans army in Tennessee. At Clhickamauga it had 70 killed
including Colonel Jones and lost heavily again at Mission Ridge. On the expiration of its
veteran furlough it again went to Charleston, West Virginia, and took part in the various
battles and skirmishes under General Crook. The Regiment was mustered out in
