Collection Synopsis
Provenance: The ohio Historical Society acquired the Ralph Simon
Papers as a gift of Ralph Simon, Columbus, Ohio, in May 1975.
Clara Ireland processed the collection in November 1980.
Property rights: The Ohio Historical Society owns the property
rights to this collection.
Copyrights: Mr. Simon has dedicated such copyrights as he possesses
in these papers to the public. Consideration of all other copy-rights
is the responsibility of the author and publisher.
Access: This collection is open under the rules and regulations
of the Ohio Historical Society.
Citation: Researchers are requested to cite collection name,
collection number, and the Ohio Historical Society in all footnote
and bibliographic references.
Biographical sketch: Ralph Simon of Columbus, Ohio, is a physicist
employed by the Battelle Memorial Institute. During the 1960s and
early 1970s, Simon was a member of the Northwest Area Council for
Human Relations ( NWACHR). He served as chairman of the Education
Committee and as treasurer, 1974- 1976, of NI' 7ACHR. Simon also
belonged to several anti- Vietnam War organizations including the
Central Ohio Committee for Education of the Public on Vietnam, the
Columbus Committee of Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam,
the Ohio Peace Action Council, and the Ohioans for a Reasonable
Settlement In Vietnam ( ORSIV). He helped organize transportation
for central Ohio participants of the 1968 peace march in Washington,
D. C.
Simon was involved with the Franklin County Democrats for McCarthy,
and the Scientists and Engineers for McCarthy in 1968, and Scien-tists
for McGovern in 1972. He was also a member of SANE, Citizen's
Organizations for a Sane World and served as acting chairman of
Central Ohio SANE in 1969.

Scope and content: The Ralph Simon Papers date from 1963 to 1974
and occupy three- fourths cubic foot. The collection consists of
correspondence, minutes, printed material, membership lists, news-letters,
photocopies of newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous
material concerning Simon's affiliations with organizations and
causes. The collection is arranged alphabetically by name of the
organization which generated the material or by a collective title
for like organizations. Miscellaneous material is filed last.
The Northwest Area Council for Human Relations files date from
1968 to 1974 and consist of correspondence, minutes, printed
