Scope and Content: The W i l l i a m Hemy Harrison Papers c o n s i s t of 42
i t e m s dating from 1795- 1919. The papers are arranged c h r o n o l o g i c a l l y
i n t o t h r e e s e r i e s : m i l i t a r y Dapers, 1794- 1797; personal l e t t e r s ,
1313- 1839; and t h e William H. Harrison Memorial records, 1919.
The n i l i t a r y papers ( 23 items) a r e those i s s u e d by Harrison, Fort
Washington, Ohio t o t h e quartermaster, i n h i s capacity as aide- de- camp
t o General Anthony Wayne, l i e u t e n a n t commander, and commander of t h e
f o r t .
The personal letters of W i l l i a m ti. Harrison c o n s i s t of t e n items
d a t i n g 1813- 1839. Topics discussed i n c l u d e b u s i n e s s and personal
news as well a s p o l i t i c a l issues such as s t a t e s r i g h t s , s l a v e r y , Whig
p a r t y , and l o c a l support i n Ohio f o r H a r r i s o n ' s p r e s i d e n t i a l candidacy.
The records of William t1eni. y Harrison Memorial ( 8 items) d a t e from
1919 when Ohio e s t a b l i s h e d a commission to oversee a memorial and
e r e c t a tomb i n H a r r i s o n ' s honor. Alsoincluded is an undated epitaph
to Harrison by h i s son William Henry Harrison, Jr.
