HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
William Scott Brook ( 1869- 1952) and Della Louisa Trimble ( 1868- 1940) were married in Crestline, Ohio on August 14, 1895. William, a farmer, was the son of Rebecca Scott ( 1837- 1906) and William Shorter Brook ( 1832- 1904). Rebecca immigrated to Richland County, Ohio from Lincolnshire, England in 1855. William immigrated from Kent County, England in 1852.
Family tradition holds that William Shorter Brook paid his passage to America by working as a sailor with his brother, John. After employment on the railroad he took up farming in Springfield Township, Richland County, and became a Baptist deacon. The widowed mothers and apparently most, if not all, the siblings of William Shorter and Rebecca Scott Brook also immigrated to the United States, the majority settling in Ohio. Rebecca Scott Brook was a sister to J. W. Scott, Mansfield, Ohio, Street Commissioner.
Della Louisa Trimble Brook, wife of William Scott Brook, was the daughter of Lucinda Ann Murphy ( 1825- 1903) and James Sterrett Trimble ( 1826- 1913). James was a schoolmaster and farmer in Springfield Township, Richland County. Della had eight siblings, including Charles E. Trimble, M. D. ( 1863- 1940) and David Frank Trimble ( 1852- 1921), rancher and Whitman County, Washington state legislator. David Frank and Maria Boals ( 1867- 1914) Trimble left Ohio in 1888.
Maternal uncles by blood of Della Louisa Trimble Brook included John F. Murphy ( b. 1818 in Stark County), Richland County, Ohio, Commissioner; and William Lafayette Murphy ( 1830-
