HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
Rodger Cuccio was a member of the 356th Tactical Airlift Squadron. His unit, plus four others, the 907th Tactical Airlift Group Headquarters, the 907th Consolidated Maintenance Squadron, the 907th Combat Support Squadron, and the 40th Mobile Aerial Port Squadron, were attached to the 907th Tactical Airlift Group, US Airforce Reserve. More than 250 people made up these units. This squadron served in the Gulf War from January to June of 1991.
While in Kuwait, Cuccio’s unit, the 365th Tactical Airlift Squadron, flew over 2,000 sorties, hauled over 4,400 tons of cargo and moved more than 13,000 people during Operation Desert Storm. The 907th had several major missions during the conflict. They resupplied Kuwait City right after its liberation. When the United Nations peace treaty was signed they were responsible for the redeployment of troops from Iraq to Saudi Arabia and they evacuated Shiite Muslims from southern Iraq.
From January until late April, the units of the 907th were part of the 1660th Tactical Airlift Wing ( Provisional). From late April until they left the Gulf region, they were part of the 1675th Tactical Airlift Group ( Provisional). The men and women of the 907th Tactical Airlift Group returned to Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts on June 14, 1991 after 141 days over seas.
