HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
The Thompson Family genealogy that accompanies the collection traces the family ancestry to a Staples Thompson who immigrated from Bristol ( England) and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania likely in the late 18th century. The creators of the genealogy were descendents of Staples son, David. David had twelve children. The genealogy does not indicate when members of the family may have moved to Ohio.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
Seven photograph albums of the Thompson Family documenting Ohio cities and towns primarily in western and southwestern Ohio, including Bellefontaine, Dayton, Miamisburg, Piqua, Troy, Springboro and Yellow Springs. There are also photographs of parks and historic sites, such as Cedar Point and Fort Ancient. One album includes photographs of the homecoming parade of members of the 37th Infantry Division in 1918. Six additional photograph albums document the family's travels in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D. C. and West Virginia. The photographs date from approximately1918 to the early 1930’ s. Albums are accompanied by two typed copies of the Thompson Family genealogy.
