Provenance: The Ohio H i s t o r i c a l Society acquired the Ohio Postal
Workers Union records as a g i f t of the union, through the auspices
of the president, Clarence Zirger in September, 1980. Clara
Ireland processed the c o l l e c t i o n in September 1980.

and OFUPC, various years; and c o n s t i t u t i o n and by- laws, OFPC, 1969.
Organizational sketch: The Ohio Federation of Post Office Clerks
( OFPOC) formed in 1907 as an a f f i l i a t e of the AFL. In 1 9 6 1 , the
OFPOC merged with the s t a t e counterparts of t h e National Postal
Transport Association ( NPTA) and the United National Association
of Post Office Craftsmen ( UNAPOC) i n t o the Ohio Federation of
United Postal Clerks ( OFUPC). The OFUPC changed its name in June
1968 t o the Ohio Federation o f Postal Clerks ( OFPC).
The OFPC organized t o advance the economic and s o c i a l i n t e r e s t s of
p o s t a l c l e r k s . Conventions were held b i e n n i a l l y with delegates
from l o c a l unions e l e c t i n g OFPC o f f i c e r s . The o f f i c e r s included
a president, executive v i c e - p r e s i d e n t , s e c r e t a r y , t r e a s u r e r , and
eleven vice- presidents representing s e c t i o n a l c e n t e r s throughout
the s t a t e . The president a l s o appointed an administrative aide
and the e d i t o r of the o f f i c i a l OFPC p u b l i c a t i o n , The Ohio Fed.
A l l elected and appointed o f f i c e r s composed the OFPC executive
board.
Upon the merger of t h e national organizations i n July 1971, the
OFPC joined with the National Postal Union, the National Associa-t
i o n of Post Office and General Service !. Iaintenance Emnloyees, the
National Federation o f Post Office Xotor Vehicle Employees, and
t h e National Association of Special Delivery Messengers to form
the Ohio Postal Workers Union ( OPWU). The OPWU retained: the basic
