Collection Synopsis
Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the County Engineers'
Association of Ohio Records as a gift of the Association, through the
auspices of the Executive Secretary, Harry S. Myers in October 1980.
Robert W. Viol processed the collection in August 1983.

rights to this collection.
Copyrights: The association has dedicated such copyrights as it
possesses in this collection to the public. Consideration of all
other copyrights is the responsibility of the author and publisher.
Access: This collection is open under the rules and regulations
of the Ohio Historical Society.

Organizational sketch: The County Engineers' Association of Ohio
was established in 1940 when several engineers seceded from the
Association of County Surveyors. The association's purpose is to
" raise the technical and non- technical standards of service rendered
the general public, by the county engineer and his employees, through
the establishment of a central point for reference and group discussion
of mutual problems." The association is governed by a president, two
vice- presidents, ten directors, a secretary, and a treasurer. These
individuals, including the immediate past president, constitute the
board of directors, vested with the government of the association.
Membership is open to all elected county engineers and their employees,
as well as any individual connected with the county surveyors through
outside interests. Two general meetings of the association are held
each year, while the annual and business meetings are held at the
direction of the board of directors.

Scope and content: The County Engineers' Association of Ohio Records
date from 1940 to 1972 and occupy one- half cubic foot. The records,
arranged chronologically, consist of minutes of the board of directors
meetings, annual meetings, and annual convention meetings; treasurer's
reports providing a summary of revenues and expenditures; correspondence
with Ohio State officials and adopted resolutions of interest to county
engineers; standing committee reports; proposed budgets; and suggested
amendments to Ohio House bills affecting county engineers. Folder 1
contains the association's constitution and by- laws adopted on
February 8, 1940, as well as a revision of these documents adopted
on December 10, 1952. Folder 8 contains a pamphlet published by the
association describina the historv of Ohio county engineers since 1803.
