Provenance: The Ohio H i s t o r i c a l Society acquired the Delaware
( Ohio) Farmers Exchange Records as a g i f t of the exchange through
the auspices of the Exchange General Manager, Karl Mehling, i n
October 1980. Paula Williams prepared the nreliminary inventory
in December, 1980.

Organizational sketch: The Delaware ( Ohio) Farmers Exchange was
established on 15 February 1919 with operating c a p i t a l of $ 100,000
to purchase farm products and supplies and to buy or l e a s e r e a l
e s t a t e or o t h e r items p e r t a i n i n g to farming. The board of
d i r e c t o r s employs a general manager who is responsible for the
daily operations of the exchange. Dividends from p r o f i t s are
d i s t r i b u t e d t o stockholders.

Scope and content: The Delaware ( Ohio) Farmers Exchange Records
consist of three- quarters cubic foot of minutes, dated 1919 t o
1963. The minutes h i g h l i g h t the board of d i r e c t o r s e f f o r t s to
procure farm r e l a t e d supplies or land necessary f o r the exchange's
operations. Also contained i n the minutes a r e f i n a n c i a l and audit
r e p o r t s , names of e l e c t e d o f f i c e r s , and stock s a l e s and purchases.
After 1950 the minutes become more concise. No documentation on
issues e f f e c t i n g the farming industry or the exchange is extant i n
the c o l l e c t i o n .
