Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Marion Are
. Chamber of Commerce Records as a gift of the Chamber through the
auspices of the Chamber Manager, Jack E. Lutenslager, in ~ ocember
1980. Paula Williams prepared the preliminary inventory in
November 19 80. -

Organizational sketch: The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce was
founded on 15 December 1915 for the purpose of promoting and
coiiraging s'ocial; civic, mercantil- e, industrial, and agricultural
terests of Marion. The Chamber is a non- profit organizatio
governed by its board of directors who select the president, v
president, and treasurer yearly.

and newsletters of the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce date f r ~ m
1944 to 1978 and comprise 2% cubic feet. There is no primary
documentation on the first thirty years of the chamber's history.
Substantive documentation on policy decisions. and their effect
upon the lifestyles of Marion residents is available in. the Civic
Committee Files, 1947- 1967. There are subject files on Streets
and highways, manufacturers, agri- business and industry leaders
which document respective committee activities, 1944- 1973. Additional
information on committee activities can be found in the chamber's
two publications, Mews Bulletins, 1948- 1959 and Activities, 1963-
1972. The Marion Area Chamber of Comerce ~ oaqd of Directors
