of New York records as a g i f t of t h e s o c i e t y through the auspices
of executive board member William 0. Munro i n November 1980. David
Gray prepared t h e preliminary inventory i n January 1981.

1880s- 1940s, and a c h a r t e r of the OSNY were t r a n s f e r r e d to the
Audio- visual Department i n December 1980 and January 1981; copies
of the Buckeye B u l l e t i n , 1925- 1973, membership d i r e c t o r i e s , 1920s-
1950s, and miscellaneous books w e r e t r a n s f e r r e d t o the Library
Department.
Organizational sketch: The Ohio Society of New York ( OSNY) was
founded in 1885 to preserve the legacy of Ohioans by honoring
the s t a t e of Ohio, its t r a d i t i o n s , and prominent r e s i d e n t s . The
OSNY also helped t o support many r e l i g i o u s and c h a r i t a b l e organi-zations.
Membership was exclusively male u n t i l the 1950s a f t e r
which women were permitted t o p a r t i c i p a t e . The OSNY is a p r i v a t e ,
non- profit organization governed by a board of t r u s t e e s and
d i r e c t o r s .
The Ohio Society of New York Foundation was chartered in 1964 as
a non- profit corporation t o r a i s e funds for c h a r i t a b l e ,
r e l i g i o u s , and educational purposes.

Scope and content: The records of the Ohio Society of New York
date from 1886 t o 1976 and occupy t h r e e and one- half cubic f e e t .

The minutes document the 2nt~: restrs and a c t i v i t i e s of the OSNY.
