Union of E l e c t r i c a l , Radio and Machine Workers. Local Union 746
Records, as a giEt of Local 746 through the auspices of the
s e c r e t a r y - t r e a s u r e r , Audrey Eggleston, i n March 1981. Clara
Ireland processed t h e c o l l e c t i o n i n March 1981.

Organizational sketch: Local 746 of the I n t e r n a t i o n a l Union of
E l e c t r i c a l , Radio, and Machine Workers ( IUE) was chartered i n
1954 t o represent employees of the Westinghouse Corporation i n
Columbus, Ohio. Local 746 a l s o n e g o t i a t e s on behalf of t h e p l a n t
c a f e t e r i a workers who, u n t i l 1978, were enployees of Szabo Foods,
Inc. The l o c a l is governed by e l e c t e d t r u s t e e s , members- at- large
of t h e executive board, and twelve o f f i c e r s . Local membership
meets monthly wlth o f f i c e r s e l e c t e d a t t h e May meetinq. Local
746 p a r t i c i p a t e d i n IUE s t r i k e s a g a i n s t Westinghouse i n 1955,
1966, 1976, and 1979, and conducted a wildcat s t r i k e i n 1972.
The 1976 s t r i k e r e s u l t e d from the purchase of Westinghouse by
the White Corporation.

Scope and content: IUE, Local 746 Records, dating from 1954 t o
1979, c o n s i s t of three- quarters cubic foot of o f f i c e f i l e s . The
f i l e s are divided i n t o two s e r i e s f o r the p a r e n t c o r p o r a t i o n s
of l ~ c a l74 6 members: White- Westinghouse and Szabo Foods. The
records are arranged a l p h a b e t i c a l l y by type and s u b j e c t and
include agreements, corresp~ ndence, f i n a n c i a l statements,
grievances, minutes, newsletters, and s c a t t e r e d o t h e r i t e m s .
