Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Central
Ohio Chapter of the American Society of Information Sciences
Records as a gift of the chapter, through the auspices of
David Penniman in May 1981. David Gray prepared the prelim-inary
inventory in June 1981.

rights to this collection.

Information Sciences has dedicated such copyrights as it
possesses in this collection to the public. Consideration

Transfer: Newsletters of the Central Ohio Chapter - American
Society of Information Sciences were transferred to the Library
Department, and three photographs to the Audiovisual Department
in June 1981.
Organizational sketch: The Central Ohio Chapter - American
Society of Information Sciences was chartered in 1961 as a
private non- profit organization. CO- ASIS is composed of infor-mation
specialists, scientists, librarians, administrators,
and social scientists. It is governed by an executive committee
and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. CO- ASIS is " dedicated
to the creation, organization, dissemination, and application of
knowledge concerning information and its transfer." Through
meetirgs and publications, CO- ASIS strives to " provide members
with a variety of channels of communication within and outside

Scope and conte~ lt: The Central Ohio Chapter - American Society
of i~ formation Sciences Records date from 1961 to 1980 and
occupy one cubic foot. The records document both the internal
and external functions of CO- ASIS. The executive committee
minutes, dating from 1961 to 1980, document the interests and
activities of cO- ASIS. The annual reports, constitutions,
rosters, and Chapter Officers' &; I:. ' I . delineate CO- ASIS' internal
structure. Correspondence, 1962 Lo 1980, highlights the policies
