Provenance: The Ohio H i s t o r i c a l Society acquired the Adams- Barre
Company Records as a g i f t of Ms. Kathy Kirn, Columbus, Ohio, in
May, 1981. David Gray prepared the preliminary inventory i n
October 1981.

Transfer: A manual on t i r e - r e b u i l d i n g was t r a n s f e r r e d t o t h e
Library Department and several scrapbooks containing photo-graphs
and broadsideswere t r a n s f e r r e d t o the Audiovisual Depart-ment
in October 1981.
Organizational sketch: The Adams- Barre Company was founded in
Columbus, Ohio, by John Quincy Adams and W. N. Barre in 1 9 1 9 .
The company manufactured vulcanizers and t i r e r e t r e a d e r s and sold
automobile accessories. In the 1930s, the product l i n e expanded
t o include spray p a i n t i n g and f i l l i n g s t a t i o n equipment. The
company is now known a s Air- Tool Systems and produces machine
t o o l s and spray p a i n t i n g equipment.

Scope and content: The Adams- Barre Company Records date from
1924 to 1953 and occupy one- quarter cubic foot. The records
document the administration of the Adams- Barre Company and the
family farm in Jamestown, Ohio. The records c o n s i s t of
correspcndence, agreements, p r i c e - l i s t s , and f i n a n c i a l reports.
