HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
The Ohio Newspaper Women’s Association was founded on October 24th, 1902 in Toledo, Ohio, following a meeting of the Ohio State Federation of Women’s Clubs. The purpose of the ONWA is “ to encourage thought and action among newspaper women of the state, ( and) to elevate the standards of the profession through educational programs and interchange of methods and experience.” The ONWA was a non- profit organization governed by its executive board.
Declining membership led to the dissolving of the ONWA in late 2004.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The Ohio Newspaper Women’s Association Records date from 1926 to 2004 and occupy 1.25 cubic foot. The records consist of meeting minutes, convention and educational programming materials, correspondence, financial and membership reports and rosters. There is no primary documentation for the first twenty- four years of the ONWA.
