November 16, 1901, i n A k r o n , O h i o . The o b j e c t s o f t h e
s o c i e t y were " t o promote t h e p r a c t i c e and t h e o r y o f an
economical o p e r a t i o n and management o f steam power p l a n t s
and a l l i e d s c i e n c e s connected w i t h e n g i n e e r i n g b o t h i n con-s
t r u c t i o n and o p e r a t i o n . " The s o c i e t y accomplished t h i s
t h r o u g h m e e t i n g s a n d t h e d i s c u s s i o n o f papers p e r t a i n i n g t o
e n g i n e e r i n g . B e g i n n i n g i n 1908, t h e s o c i e t y a l s o p u b l i s h e d
a j o u r n a l o f i t s papers and p r o c e e d i n g s .
