Collection Synopsis
Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Dunzweiler
Construction Company Records, as a gift of David Taylor,
Zanesville, Ohio, in October 1981. Jeanne Ontko processed the
collection in April 1982.
Property rights: The Ohio Historical Society owns the property
rights to this collection.
Copyrights: David Taylor has dedicated such copyrights as he
possesses in this collection to the public. Consideration of all
other copyrights is the responsibility of the author and publisher.
Access: This'collection is open under the rules and regulations
of the Ohio Historical Society.
Citation: Researchers are requested to cite collection name,
collection number, and the Ohio Historical Society in all foot-note
and bibliographic references.
Transfer: Local, state, and federal government documents; an
Erie Railroad timetable; and a Carnegie Steel Company stock list
were transferred to the library in March and April 1982. A photo-graph
and postcard were transferred to the audiovisual department
in March, 1982.
Organizational sketch: The Dunzweiler Construction Company was
incorporated in 1917 for the purpose of general contracting work.
The company constructed a section of the National Road, the Rose-ville
and Ohio potteries, churches, banks, and schools. Its
principal office was located in Zanesville, Ohio. The company was
governed by a board of directors, president, secretary, and treasurer,
with annual elections of officers.

Scope and content: The Dunzweiler Construction Company records
date from 1904 to 1929 and occupy two and one- half cubic feet.
The records consist of one- quarter cubic foot of loose documents
and nineteen financial volumes. The loose business records date
from 1905 to 1929 and consist of contracts with other companies,
financial records, construction estimates, and business correspon-dence.
The volumes containing the financial records of the company
date from 1904 to 1921 and provide a comprehensive documentation
of the company's business affairs.
The cashbooks date from 1904 through 1921 and contain chronological
single entries of business and personal accounts. The number in
the second column of the cashboo, ks indicates the page in the ledger
which provides more detailed . informa: tion ( See Folders 3- 6) .
