Biographical Sketch: Norris Franz Schneider was born June 20,
1898, i n Lowell, Chio. He a t t e n d e d primary and secondary schools
i n Lowell and Belpre, Marietta College, Tlhe Ohio S t a t e U n i v e r s i t y ,
where he received a B. A. Segree i n 1921, and t h e Teachers College
of Columbia University, where he r e c e i v e d a ? LA. degree in 1925.
In 1977 M r . Schneider was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree
by Muskingum College.
After graduation from OSU i n 1921, M r . Schneider accepted a job
teaching English a t Zanesville High School. H e remained i n t h a t
p o s i t i o n u n t i l h i s r e t i r e m e n t i n 1963. while a t Zanesville High
School, M r . Schneider served as an a d v i s o r on the Comus yearbook
and was t h e founder of the Z a n e s v i l l i a n , the weekly school news-paper.
Always i n t e r e s t e d In h i s surroundings, M r . Schneider began c o l l e c t -
ing h i s t o r i c a l m a t e r i a l s after h i s graduation from OSU. In 1939 he
he began w r i t i n g l o c a l h i s t o r y f e a t u r e s f o r t h e Zanesville N e w s ,
a job he continued u n t i l 1944. In 1944 he t r a n s f e r r e d h i s a r t i c l e s
t o t h e Zanesville Times- Recorder and S i g n a l , where he wrote Muskingum
County Men and Women i n World War 11, which was published i n 1947.
After t h e publication of t h e World W a r I1 book, M r . Schneider took a
leave of absence from tea and w r i t e Y Bridge C i t y ,
