Provenance: James Oldham gave the Samuel Dickey Crothers Papers
to the Ohio Historical Society. Kay Weisman processed the
collection in July 1979.

Transfer: Four tintypes ( group portraits), a greeting card, and
a half- tone print of Robert C. Galbraith, Jr., were transferred
to the Audiovisual Department.
Biographical sketch: Biographical information on Samuel Dickey
Crothers is sparse. The son of Samuel Crothers ( 1783- 1856),
Samuel Dickey Crothers was born April 20, 1833, in Greenfield,
Ohio. He graduated from Center College in Kentucky in 1858 and
attended a theological seminary until 1861. He served as pastor
of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield from 1863 until
1900. He continued as Pastor Emeritus until his death in 1916.
Crothers and his wife, Mary Dunlap, had four sons.
