B i o g r a p h i c a l s k e t c h : Ysabel Fisk Rennie was born in Los A n g e l e s ,
C a l i f o r n i a , on May 9 , 1918. She r e c e i v e d h e r B. A. and M . A . d e g r e e s
i n h i s t o r y from S t a n f o r d U n i v e r s i t y i n 1939 a ~ d19 40, r e s p e c t i v e l y ,
and was a member o f Phi Beta Kappa. Rennie a t t e n d e d Harvard
U n i v e r s i t y from 1940 t o 1941 where s h e h e l d t h e L o n g f e l l o w F e l l o w -
s h i p from R a d c l i f f e C o l l e g e , and r e c e i v e d t h e A g a s s i z F e l l o w s h i p
f o r f u r t h e r s t u d y i n Buenos A i r e s , A r g e n t i n a . During World War 11,
Rennie s e r v e d a s a p o l i t i c a l a n a l y s t f o r Nelson R o c k e r f e l l e r ,
C o o r d i n a t o r of I n t e r - A m e r i c a n A f f a i r s ( 1 9 a 3 ) ; and as i n t e l l i g e n c e
a n a l y s t i n t h e O f f i c e of S t r a t e g i c S e r v i c e s ( OSS), f o r e r u n n e r of
t h e CIA, from 1943 t o 1945. While s e r v i n g i n t h e OSS, she con-d
u c t e d s t u d i e s of Juan P e r o n ' s pro- Nazi A r g e n t i n e government f o r
t h e United S t a t e s j o i n t c h i e f s of s t a f f . A f t e r t h e war, she became
an o f f i c e r of t h e U. S. S t a t e Department, s e r v i n g from 1945 t o 1947.
Y s a b e l , h e r husband R o b e r t , and t h e i r f o u r c h i l d r e n l i v e d in
B a l t i m o r e , M a r y l a n d , f r o m 1948 t o 1951, and in Columbus, O h i o , f r o m
1951 t o 1983. During t h i s time Rennie c o n c e n t r a t e d on r a i s i n g h e r
c h i l d r e n and w r i t i n g two n o v e l s , The Blue Chip, 1954; and K i n g s i d e ,
p u b l i s h e d i n 1963.
