Piarch 1913 by a group of Columbus, Ohio, women i n t e r e s t e d i n
h e l 2 i n - j French c h i l d r e n orphaned during World War I. The women
organized t h e club t o b r i n g t o g e t h e r o t h e r i n t e r e s t e d i n a r t i s t i c ,
d r a n a t i c , e d u c a t i o n a l , c i v i c , and p h i l a n t h r o p i c p r o j e c t s . In
September 1918 t h e club joined t h e Ohio Federation of Women's
Clu5s.
The Colurd~ us Woman's Club is governed by a p r e s i d e n t , t h r e e v i c e
p r e s i d e n t s , r e c o r d i n g s e c r e t a r y , corresponding s e c r e t a r y ,
t r e a s u r e r , and two t r u s t s e s , serving two- year terms. These
o f f i c e r s , along with t h e c h a i r p e r s o n o f t h e s t a n d i n g committees,
comprise the General Board, which governs between r e g u l a r b u s i n e s s
neerrin- js. The club i s organized i n t o t h r e e committees: philan-t
h r o p y , s c h o l a r s h i p , and h o s p i t a l i t y , and seven departments
emphasizing t h e s s e c i a l i n t e r e s t s of club members. These d e p a r t -
ments d e a l w i t h c o n s e r v a t i o n , education, f i n e a r t s , home l i f e ,
i n t e r n a t i o n a l a f f a i r s , p u b l i c o f f i c e r s , and l e g i s l a t i o n .
Kew members of cr, e club must be recommended by two c u r r e n t xernbers
and meet the a p p r o v a l o f t n e General Soard. Honorary membership
is o f f e r e d t o t h e wrves of both the governor of Ohio and mayor of
Columbus. Honorary members have included M r s . Frank J. Lausche,
~ Yrs. John W. S r i c k e r , and Xrs. James A. Rhodes.
