MSS 877 American Association of University Professors. Ohio Conference Records 8 3 / 4 cubic feet Preliminary inventory Collection Synopsis Provenance: The Ohio Historlcai Society acquired the American Association of University Professors, Ohio Conference Records, as a gift of the AAUP, Ohio Conference through the auspices of the executive- secretary, James M. Hall, in February 1985. Robert W. Viol processed the collection in September 1985. Property rights: The Ohio Historical Society owns the property rights to this coliectlon. Copyrights: The AAUP, Ohio Conference has dedicated such copy-rights as it possesses in this collection to the public. Consideration of ail other copyrights is the responsibility of the author and publisher. Access: This collection is open under the rules and regulations of the Ohio Historical Society. Ciration: Researchers are requested to cite collection name, collection number, and the Ohio Historical Society in all foot-note and bibliographic references. Transfers: Publications were transferred to the library in August 1985. Organizational and historical sketch: The Ohio Conference of the American Association of University Professors ( AAUP) was founded on April 30. 1949. Twenty- three professors representing twelve Ohio colleges and universities met in the Faculty Club of The Ohio State University in Columbus for the purpose of organizing the " Conference of the Ohio Chapter of the American Association of University Professors." Professor E. Turner Stump of Kent State University was elected chairman. He named professors Edmund M. Spieker, Paul F. Bloomhardt, and Lionel G. Crocker to the executive committee. The group proposed " to talk over common problems so that the visitors can take home ideas which might help to Improve the work of their chapters." Topics discussed at the first meeting included dues, membership recruitment, problems facing Ohio chapters. and the planning of the first regular meeting scheduled for The Ohio State University on April 1, 1950.
