HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
Born June 16, 1918, Beryl Esco Drummond was a member of the Waterloo ( Ohio) Wonders high school basketball team. After he transferred to Waterloo High School from Cadmus, Ohio, Drummond served as the team’s 5’ 8” forward.
During the 1930s, sports was popular in the Midwest. As young men strove to compete fairly and entertain the crowds while playing, basketball became a focus of community pride. Basketball in Waterloo was no exception. Named by Ironton writer Stan Morris, the Waterloo Wonders developed a unique playing style that became their hallmark.
