MSS 228 Iowa Smith Papers

              The Iowa D. Smith c o l l e c t i o n is based on the f i r s t 100 y e a r s o f
Ohio S t a t e University College of Medicine. In 1834 Willoughby of
Lake Erie was s t a r t e d , i n 1846 the medical c o l l e g e moved to Columbus
( Willoughby Medical College of Columbus), 1848 Willoughby became p a r t
of S t a r l i n g Medical College located i n Columbus, 1876 another medical
school was founded i n Columbus, Columbus Medical College, 1892 S t a r l i n g
and Columbus Medical Colleges merged a l s o another was founded Ohio
Medical U n i v e r s i t y , i n 1907 S t a r l i n g and Ohio Medical School merged to
form Sterling- Ohio Medical College, 1949 Ohio S t a t e University incorporated
Starling- Ohio Medical College and it became Ohio S t a t e University College
of Medicine.
The m a t e r i a l s used to publish t h e c e n t e n n i a l book a r e i n Box 1, these
a r e the o r i g i n a l s and copies. Box 2 c o n t a i n s t h e f i n a l d r a f t of the book
before it was s e n t t o the publisher.
The r e s e a r c h e r w i l l be a b l e to find most everything he/ she w i l l need
i n Box 2 , i f t h e r e s e a r c h e r wants to check a g a i n s t t h e o r i g i n a l s they
could e a s i l y be found i n Box 1.
