The family history was focused in Franklin, Morgan and Muskingum County and centered on McConnellsville, Ohio. The collection holds images of two relatives who were Civil War soldiers, Cyrus M. Roberts and John T. Wood.
Cyrus Marion Roberts enlisted as a second lieutenant in Company E of the 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was promoted to first lieutenant and to captain of Company F.
John T. Wood was an officer and aide to General Francis Channing Barlow. Wood sustained an injury to his arm at Gettysburg when Barlow's division was overrun and Barlow was killed. Wood recovered from his wounds and became a lieutenant colonel in the 180th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
