SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The collection is comprised of 35 items including photographs, advertising materials, technical drawings and an instruction manual documenting the Hughes Profire Automatic Controller. There is one small photograph, one enlarged photograph of the Profire and two photographs of a clay products manufacturing company where the Profire was used. This factory is possibly the W.S. Dickey Clay Manufacturing Company of Kansas City, Missouri. The Profire was invented by Robert Haynes Hughes (1907-1986) of the R.H. Hughes Company in Columbus, Ohio. This machine was the first automated system for regulating the temperature of periodic kilns that fire clay products.
