SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The Harvey Eugene Smith Collection consists of 210 black and white photographs ranging from the 1930s to the 1970s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Professional and collegiate sports in Cincinnati are documented in the collection. Professional teams represented include the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, the Cincinnati Bengals football team and the Cincinnati Royals, a former National Basketball Association team. College teams found in the collections include the University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball team and the Xavier University football team. Scenes of Cincinnati, Ohio include the city skyline, river views, and coal barges. Weather events pictured in the collection include flooding at Coney Island amusement park, a flood in Carrolton, Kentucky and tornado damage in Falmouth, Kentucky. People and groups represented in the collection are mostly unidentified. Additionally, the collection contains photographs of Ohio Governor James A. Rhodes.
