HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
The Women’s Association of Columbus Symphony Orchestra originated from the women’s

fund the first Columbus Symphony in 1949. One year later, the Columbus Little Symphony
opened its first season with 26 players. They performed in Mees Hall on the campus of Capital
University. By 1955 the symphony had grown to 40 players and changed its name to the
Columbus Symphony Orchestra. The women’s committee became the Women’s Association
with elected officers and annual fundraising events.
