AGENCY BACKGROUND The Ohio War History Commission was established in 1942 by the State of Ohio
to collect and preserve its war records. The governor appointed the members of the commission. In 1949, the
commission was disbanded and the agency was closed.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE SERIES The collection contains 383 posters. The federal government to
support the nation’s war effort produced the majority of the posters. A small amount of the posters were
produced by the State of Ohio and privately operated businesses. The subjects of the posters touch on every
aspect of American wartime life -- from enlistment in the armed forces to the recycling and conservation of
resources in the home -- and are listed below.
