Local Committee Of Eight Named For Edwin J. Schanfarber Memorial Fund
The many contributions of Edwin J. Schanfarber to Columbus and American Jewry will not be forgotten, ac¬ cording to a statement made this week by one of his inti¬ mate friends and co-workers. In an effort to express the gratitude and appreciation for the yeoman labors he per¬ formed in the moulding and direction of communal efforts during his lifetime, a committee was last week organized for the creation of an Edwin J. Schanfarber Memorial Fund. It is composed of Dr. S. D. Edelman, president of the B'nai B'rith Hiilel Foundation Advisory Board; I. W. Garek, past president of District No. 2, B'nai B'rith and president of the Jewish Welfare Federation; Harry Gilbert, president of Columbus Jewish Community Council; L. J. Goodman, president of Temple Israel; Simon Lazarus, Uni¬ ted Jewish Fund treasurer; Edward Schlezlnger, president of Zion Lodge, B'nai B'rith; Allen Gundersheimer and Ju¬ lius Steinhauser, lifelong friends of Mr. Schanfarber,
All contributions should be made payable to Edwin J. Schanfarber Memorial Fund and forwarded to Julius Steinhauser, treasurer, care of The F. & R. Lazarus & Co., Columbus, Ohio.
At present no mention is being made of the type of memorial under consideration. However, several plans arc being carefully studied and an announcement will be forthcoming in a later issue of the Chronicle.
