J. W. V, Commander Appeals to Truman
, Maxwell Cohen, National Com¬ mander of the Jewish War Vet¬ erans of the United Stales, this week wired President Truman as follows:
"Latest reports state you are urged by your representative to accept British Federation gcheme for Palestine, and agree Immigration ot lOO,000 homeless Jews be dependent on accept¬ ance of plan. Inconceivable to us, Mr. President you would agree to such complete reversal of v. S. policy as enunciated and reiterated by Cbngress and by yourself. Use of 100,000 human beings as hostages to force ac¬ ceptance of this scheme, ajSpears to us not only heartless and In¬ human, but ignominous sur¬ render position taken by you our onetime commander-in- chief. We urge you stand by position you have repeatedly enunciated which has support of Congress and American peo¬ ple and upon which hundred of thousands of people have built hopes for future. We respect¬ fully urge policy previously en¬ unciated be carried out, and not go down in history as Just another promise." ¦
