Hadassah Launches Membership Drive
According to the meml)ershlp committee, the local chapter of Hadassah Is going to enjoy another iranner year. Headed by Mi's. David Goldsmith, the mem¬ bership group, which al.'^o In¬ cludes Mrs. Jerome Fisher and Mrs. Maurice Levine, co-chair¬ men, and it.'; entire list of work¬ er;!, is going all out In an effort to sign up a record number of new members.
New members will be honored at a membership dinner. Wed¬ nesday, Sept. 10, at Rroatl St. Temple. Pald-Up membei's will ;ilso be guesls at this affair, which will start at 0:30 p. m.

Rudolph Stern, Chairman, pi-o- posed that a record number of new inembers be brought into the Temple as the "Rabbi Folk- man Class", in making his pro- po.sal, he said."i ciin think of no finer tribute to our new Rabbi than to present him with a large group of new members who enter the 'Temple at the same time that his ministry l5e- glns. 1 would like to see a 'Rabbi Foikman Class' of record propor¬ tions. It would be a fine thing if a picture of this Clasp together with the picture of Rabbi Folk- man could be presented to him on the occasion of his formal in¬ stallation as our Rabbi on Sept. 26. This would be a con.stant re¬ minder to him of an eloquent tribute to the leadership h e brings to our community." The proposal was enthusiastically and unanimously adopted by the Membership Committee. Rabbi Foikman responded briefly.

Mrs. M. J. Papurt, Principal of the Temple Israel Religious School, has announced the ap¬ pointment of Mr. Ezra 'Vogel as Director of Audlo-'Visual Educa¬ tion for the Religious School.
Mrs. Papurt said, "There are many splendid materials avail¬ able in motion picture and trans¬ cription form. It is the policy of the Temple Israel Religious School to use these modern aids to education as fully as ¦possible. We f«el that the ap¬ pointment ot Mr. 'Vogel as our Director of Audlo-'Visual Educa¬ tion is a historli; step In the his¬ tory of Jewish education." '

SWEDEN CONSIDERING LAW WHICH COULD CURB ANTI-SteMITISM
STOCKHOLM (JTA) — T h e Minister of Justice this week told the Swedish -Parliament that the government Is consid¬ ering a law which would be ap¬ plicable to anti-Semitic propa¬ ganda.
The government will not pro¬ pose that Parllment pass a spec¬ ial law against group hatred, He said, adding that "you have to fight anti-Semitism chiefly by the use of widespread, sei^ lous information.

Thoy will enter the United States for a period of six to nine jnpnths, after Which they will leave for South Amer-' lea. -
"The criteria for selection of DP's shall be their desire and aptitude, their physical and mental fitness for a vocation in the South American countries, either as farmer, dairyman or cattle raiser, a.s mechanic, car¬ penter plumber or printer, as nurse, doctor, pharmacist, as chemical, electrical or mechani¬ cal engineer, as worker in shoe, clothing, shirts, sweaters, hosi¬ ery and leather Industries or as worker In fish and meat can¬ nery, Jam and candy Industry," Mr. Cohen said, adding: "A task force of 500 families shall be admitted at once to prepare Quoddy for the first 1,000 fam¬ ilies, it shall be set up as a skeleton unit which the future arrivals shall fill in." Tromnn Offers His Support; State Department WUI Grant VIsoH A special meeting of President Truman and the Senators from Maine, who are sponsoring the project, wae held in the White House and the President gave his approval and offered his sup¬ port, Mr. Cohen reported. "The Preaident agreed to issue a di¬ rective to urge and hasten the cooperation of all govertunent departments and has designated an administrative secretary tor this purpose," he said.
Mr. Cohen emphasized that "the State Department wlU furn¬ ish the visas for entrance either as transit, qr for trainees" and will also giv? its active support before all other government de¬ partments. It haa appointed a special deputy for this purpose, Mr. Cohen revealed.
