Leaders of Overseas Jewish Communities To Speak; "Message of Israel" Radio Program To Open Sessions in Hotel New York, N.Y.
NEW YORK: Herbert H. Leh¬ man, former Governor of New York and Director-General ot UNRRA, and Edward M. M. Warburg, Chalrnian ot the Joint Distribution Committee, will be the featured speakers at the thirty-second annual meeting of the J.D.C, on Sunday afternoon, January 12, at Manhattan Cen¬ ter, New York City, It was an¬ nounced this week.
A summary ot the'JJJ.C.'s re¬ lief, reconstruction and resettle¬ ment activities in 1946, during which the Committee appropri¬ ated over $58,000,000 for its programs of assistance lo Jewish surylvol-s overseas, will be pre¬ sented at the meeting along with plans for an enlarged program of aid in the coming year.
The meeting will be open to tbe public. No funds will be so¬ licited, It was pointed out, since the J.D.C. receives financial support from contributions to the United Jewish Appeal.
The first session of the annual meeting will open at 10 a. m Sunday when the National Council convenes in the North Ballroom of the Hotel New York er. The radio program "Message ot Israel" over WJZ In New York and nationally over the American Broadcasting Com pany. network will devote Its program to the' J.D.C. at the opening of this session," 10 a m. Eastern Standard Time. Mr ¦Warburg, along with Dr. Joseph C. Hyman, Executive Vice-Clialr man ot the J.D.C, and Habbl Jonah B. Wise, J. D. C.. Vice Chairman, will participate. in the radio program. Tonlte, Jan. 4th, is the date- Broad Street "Temple is the place—eight o'clock Is the time for the Junior Jewish Commun¬ ity Council's Fourth Annual Stunt Nite, Competition, as In other years, will be keen as the various organizations vie for the trophy. The winning stunts of the previous-years were pre¬ sented by Iota Tau Gamma Sorority, two-time victor, and Phi Gamma Sorority. Originality and cleverness have character¬ ized these winning presehta- tions.
Outstanding personalities have been cHosen as judges, and Miss Ruth 'Russell, Buc} Kissel, and George Lyman Arms wHl act in this capaplty. The Council was indeed fortunate in secure Ing their assistance.

The Jewish Community of Co¬ lumbus Is to he privileged by performances on January Ilth and 12th at 4wo musical events which wUl highlight Hebrew musical genius. On Saturday, January Ilth, the Columbus Philharmonic under the baton of Izler Solomon, will play the now compositions by Leon Stern, entitled Three Hassidlc Dances for Orchestra. The first is entitled Dance of the Joyous, the second Dance of the Enrap¬ tured and finally. Dance of the Exultant.
Leon Stern, bom at Chicago in 1910, has been a memlier of the faculty of the DePaul Uni¬ versity School of Music since 1931. Mr. Stein has characterized his music as the "desire for free spirit in worship as opposed to te literalness, the sterile ritual derived from' ancient Synagogue modes, Talmudic chants, orien¬ tal elements, Ukrahlan and Slav¬ ic folk" songs' and various dances".
Likewise to be,featured by the PhilharmonlCd.ihSit night is the "142nd Psalnii", a composition by Mr. Julius Chajes, prominent Jewish composer and pianist. The Ohio State University Sym¬ phonic Choir will appear as sol¬ oists for this performance,
