Ceremonies Sunday To Mark Cornerstone Setting Of T. I. Educational Center

The Cornerstone Setting Cere¬ mony for Tifereth Israel Educa¬ tional Center, an event of this Sunday, Nov. 23rd at 2:30 P. M., will mark the climax of the suc¬ cessful fund raising campaign of the past two years.
Recognizing the Inadequacies of the present physical facilities for a well rounded educational program, the Board of Trustees of the Tlferfeth Israel Congrega¬ tion, on May 16th, 1945, author¬ ized the President, William Was¬ serstrom, to appoint a post-war planning committee for the ex¬ press purpose of ralsiijg funds to erect a new educational center. Mr. Wasserstrom appointed Mr.
Samuel M. Melton to serve as Chairman of this Important com¬ mittee.
Impetus for the inception of a fund drive was inspired at a meeting in the home of Mr. Mel¬ ton early in June 1945. The of¬ ficers and Board of Trustees pledged full cooperation In ful¬ filling the plans formulated and suggested by Mr. Melton.
At this meeting an announce¬ ment was made to the effect that Mr. H. J. Gutter had purchased the land immediately east of the Temple proper, with the Intent of donating same as the site of the new educational center. This generous contribution to be detll-
tdted to tho memcirics of the parents of Mr ami Mib Gutter was but another testimonial to Mr. Gutter's con.sistent devotion to the furtherance of the Ideals of the Congregation with which he had been affiliated from Its earliest years.
The committee at the same time, was Informed of the pro¬ posed substantial contribution to be made by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cobey of Gallon, Ohio, for the Inclusion of a modern library In the new edifice. This contribu¬ tion was proposed as a memorial to the memories of the mother of Mr. Harry Cobey and the par¬ ents of Mrs. Cobey. Because.of the untimely passing of Mrs.

Mrs. Sharp and her husband, the Reverend WaitstlU Hastings Sharp, have been oalled the "guardian angels of Europ&n children", a title given them in an American dispatch dated Feb¬ ruary 18, J948, from Prague, which told of their long and dis¬ tinguished service to thousands of refugee children and war-torn families from the very outbreak of war in 1939 to the present time of hunger and suffering. Hillel To Perform At B'nai B'rith Meeting Tuesday
One of B'nal Brlth's principal beneficiaries will parade a por¬ tion of Its talents at the next meeting of Zion Lodge Tuesday November 25„ when the, Hlllel Foundation at Ohio State Uni¬ versity takes over the local order's entertainment program. Chairman Bernard Feltlinger has announced a program Jammed with entertaining and edifying features including an address by Rabbi Harry Kaplan, Hlllel director.
The famed Hillel Players will present a one-act play, "The Thief and the Hangman" taken from NBC's Eternal Light Pro¬ gram.
The Hlllel Choir also will per¬ form and foundation greetings win be given by Harry Rubin¬ stein, studetit president of Hlllel. The meeting will be a Joint af¬ fair of the Zion lodge and B'nal Brith Women, who will prepare and serve the usual tasty re¬ freshments.
Lodge President Harry Gold¬ stein urges full attendance to welcome the Hillel guests.
Noted N. Y. Music Authority To Appear In Lecture Recital
Max Helfman, noted conductor, composer, and authority on Jew¬ ish music, will appear at a lec¬ ture-recital on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Hlllel Foundation, 4G 16th Ave.
Mr. Helfman is the conductor of the People's Philharmonic Choral Society of New York and Is choral director of Temple B'nal Abraham of Newark. He has prepared the chorus for the premiere performance of two contemporary operas: Max Brand's "The Gate," which was performed at the Metropolitan Opera House, and Dzherdzlnski's "Quiet Flows the Don," which waa presented at Carnegie Hall.
Mr. Helfman traces the sources of Jewish music through the ages in his lecture with special emphasis on the future of Jew¬ ish music. His talk Is Illustrated with examples from Blble-catll- latlons, Jewish folk songs, Pales¬ tinian tunes, as well as works of contemporary composei-s. The noted musician presents his ex¬ amples at the piano and sings.
The lecture will begin promptly at 8 P. M. There will be no ad¬ mission charge, and everyone Is welcome.

It Is Interesting to note that in 1947, when it became apparent that larger funds would be neces¬ sary due to increased costs of construction, practically all sub¬ scribers pledged Increased con¬ tributions In order to attain the original goal, based on revised costs. Encouragement of in¬ creased pledges was generated by *the example of Mr. Harry Cobey and family.
On behalf of all Temple mem¬ bers who contributed to this fund, the Building Fund Com¬ mittee and Mr. Louis Schlezinger, President of the current admin¬ istration, are proud to announce that the goal is well In sight pro¬ viding for the completion of one of the finest educational centers in the country.

AZA Regional Convention To Be Held In Columbus
The annual regional conven¬ tion of the Kentucky-lndiana- Ohlo region of AZA will be held in Columbus on Dec. 28, 29 and 30. The local chapter will be host to delegates from 18 chapters throughout the region. Between 200-and 250 Alephs are expected to participate.
