Broad Street Temple To Hold Cornerstone Ceremonies On Sunday, Nov. 23, At 2:30 p. m.

As a cornerstone Indicates the two main lines of a building, so the cornerstone for the new Ti¬ fereth Israel Educational Build¬ ing can be said to be symlwllc of the two main lines of Judaic culture—tradition ami education. The cornerstone laying ceremon- WS for the Broad St. Temple Eclucalionai Center will take place on Sunday, Nov. 23rd, at 2:30 P. M. In the event of in¬ clement weather, the program , will be held in the Temple prop¬ er. The public is cordially in¬ vited to attend.
Part of the ceremony will con¬ sist of the sealing of a lead box in the cornerstone. This box win contain a Jewish Prayer, a program of the ceremony, the names of the officers and Board of Trustees of the Congregation, officers and Board of Trustees of T. I. Sisterhood, officers and Hoard of Trustees of T. 1. Men's^ Group, Youth Group officers' ami advLsors, Kabbi Nathan 'Zeli¬ zer and hi.'^ staff, Chairman and nicmbers of the Building Fund and Construction Committee, Publicity Committee and volun¬ tary vvorkens. Also Included will be a copy of the Ohio Jewish Chronicle, a compilete list of all contributors and the amount of money bach contributed to the School Building Fund, a scroll with the names of those children wfio contributed to the "Buy A Brick" campaign and the names of those people who will buy a brick at the ceremony. This lat¬ ter teaturs., win provide an op¬ portunity for those who have not yet subscribed to make their contribution.
Ciornenitono Ceremony Honors Are Annoonced
To Harry and Max Sllbersteln, owners of the Columbus Pipe & Equipment Co., will go the hon¬ ors of setting the cornerstone, one stone to face East and 'West, the other Nortlj and SoOth.
It is interesting to note that the Sllbersteln brothers have foi' years contributed tp every worth¬ while endeavour in the local Jewish community as well as to numerous national Institutions in America and foreign coun¬ tries. Among their recent bene¬ ficiaries have been the United Jewish Fund, the New Jewish Center, new Agudath Achim synagogue and the Columbus Hebrew School.. Folkman To Address Religious School Teachers Institute

Among other members of the congregation to be honored with the privilege of laying Initial bricks around the cornorslone will be Morris' Pol-ster, Nathan Wa.sser.sii'om, H. .1. Gutter and Sol Roth, .surviving members of the original founders of the Con¬ gregation.
Mrs. 1. II. Schiozingei- wiil bo similarly honored as she tledi- cates a brick in the memory of those charter members now de¬ ceased. Mrs, .Schlezinger i.s the mother of Louis Schlezinger, Temple president, who has fol¬ lowed In his father's ftiotsteps as a vital force In the contin¬ uance of Temple activity on a progressive level.
A brick In the name of the membership at large will be dedi¬ cated by Mr. Harry Cobey of Gallon, Ohio, who.se gift will take the form of a modern com¬ plete, comprehensive library, re¬ plete with' Jewish and related reference works, fiction and current periodicals.
Louis Schlezinger, Congrega¬ tion President, will place the lead box and contents in the niche provided in the corner¬ stone setting and Cantor Leo Halpern' will render an appro¬ priate Hebrew selection.
This cornerstone laying cere¬ mony promises to be one of the most outstanding events the Co¬ lumbus Jewish Community has had in many years. The last event of comparable importance was the cornerstone ceremony for the Broad St. Temple proper In 1926.

Dr. liailiiern Is married to thlf former IlarrieL Silverman, of Co¬ lumbus, daughter of the former Rev. Simon Siivernian. Mrs. Hail, perln's brotlier, Rabbi Mori-is Silverman, Is nationally known as editor of the prayer books used by many conservative Con. gregations.
The testimonial dinner for Dr. Hailpern comes at a significant time in the history of the Tree of Life Congregation, inasmuch as that group Is n,ow engaged in Us building fund campaign, and hopes to begin the construction of a new synagogue in the very near future.

The Bureau of Jewish Educa¬ tion Is pleased to announce the resumption of the Religious School Teachers Institute. Plans have l»cn made for a series of six lectures Mth very Interest. Ing topics. The following Rabbis have volunteered to serve as lee. turers at the Institutes: Rabbi Jerome Folkman, Rabbi Nathan Zelizer and Rabbi Harry Kaplan.
Rabbi Foikman will lecture al the opening of the Institute next Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 8 p. m,. at the Bryden Road Temple. His topic will be "The Story of tho Jewish People." Rabbi Folkman will give his second lecture on Dec. 17th.
Rabbi Zellzer's lectures, which arc to he given on Jan 21 and Feb. 18 will be devoted to "Pro¬ phetic Literature". Rabbi Kaplan will lecture on March 17 and April 21, his subject being "Con¬ temporary  Jewish   Problems."
These Institutes were made passible by the close cooperation of the local Rabbis for the bene¬ fit of the teachers of the various religious schools in the commun¬ ity.

A generous gift of $520 was recently received l)y the Schan¬ farber Memorial l^und of the H'nal B'rith Hillel F'oundatlon from the 1H47 Intends Clam Bake which met recently in Bedford, Pa. The contribution was made In memory of Edwin J. Schan¬ farber anci Max Rlcser, beloved members and founders of the an¬ nual Friends Clam Bake which was organized In Columbus In 1022, At the 1017 gathering which wa.s attended by outstanding Jewish leaders from every part of America, special memorial ex¬ ercises were held in memory of these dear departed. An a fur- llior triliule, the Schanfarber Moniorlal l-'und was designated as tho beneficiary of tho memo- ri:d offerings.

The Fund, which Is being raised na¬ tionally to honor the beloved Mr. .Schanfarber, has already reached a figure of .$02,000 towards the basic goal of $100,000. it is esti¬ mated that at least another $35,- 000 will be required to complete the campaign and to start con¬ struction. As soon as financial ai'rangemems can be made for this additional amount. It Is ex¬ pected that ground may be broken.late next spring for the actual building.
Tho new Schanfarber Memo¬ rial building of the B'nai B'rlth llillcl Foundation will be a twch story Ijuiidlng, containing a large autiitorlum, chapel, lounge, of¬ fices, music and game rooms, li¬ brary and meeting ro»m.s. The structure will bo erected on the site of the present Hillel, 'Ki Six¬ teenth Aveniiu, and that of the building Immediately to the west.
The recent gift of the Friends Clam Bake to the Schanfarber Memorial is l)Ut ono of the many fine acts of .community service and Jewish leadership arising from this nationally-known re¬ union and fellowship of out- standnlg Jewish leaders.
