Britain, France Want U. N. Commission In
Palestine Composed of ^'Neutral Nations"
Noted Dance Artists To Present Program
B'nai B'rith Smoker Is Scheduled For Thursday Evening
LAKE SUCCESS (JTA)—Brit¬ ish and French sjDoliesmen here indicated that their govern¬ ments would favor the appoint¬ ment of a fact-finding commis¬ sion composed of representa¬ tives of "neutral" small nations when the special United Nations session on Palestine is held at Flushing Meadows. This plan would bar Arabs, Jews and rep¬ resentatives of the Big Five trom membership on the Inquiry committee.
The British spokesman cited Czechoslovakia, Brazil, Sweden and New Zealand as examples of the small powers whose reii- resenlatton on the committee his government would favor. The names of Jan Masaryk of .Czechoslovakia and Oswaldo Aranha of Brazil were also mentioned as contenders for president of the U.N. session.
The Jewish Agency was re- Ported, to have Informally in¬ dicated that it would request a spat on the floor of the General- Assembly without a vote during the discussions of the PalesUne Issue.
Earlier, the Agency urged that the special .session ot the Assembly ls,sue an Interim de¬ cision which would immediately open Palestine" to Jewish immi¬ gration.
Pointing out that further de¬ lay may mean catastrophe for Jews who have now waited t^o years for liberation and recon¬ struction, the Agency declared that such an Interim order Is dictated by every consideration
outlined In a statement Issued following a meeting ot the American section of Its execu¬ tive In New York. The statement pointed out that "the Jewish ' people approach the forthcom¬ ing U.N. session under a great disadvantage, Great Britain and the Arab world are formally represented In the U.N. and In a position to influence the de¬ cision. The party most vitally concerned has no voice, no vote, no advocate. But the Jew¬ ish people feel confident that they have both law and equity on their side. And they turn to the United Nations, appealing for a judgement which, expres¬ sive of the world's goodwUl and. sense of justice, will bring an end to suffering and restore to them the rights, status and dig¬ nity of a free people."
