UJF Drive Opens Here Next Week!
Important Group Meetings Scheduled; Divisions Set Up
The time has come for the Jewish community of Co¬ lumbus to take its place along with the ,5,000 communities all over the country to meet the challenge of the most critical moment in the history of our people. What we Jews in America accomplish in 1948 towarcfs the national .$2,'i0,000,000 United Jewish Appeal will have' a decisive effect on the destiny of Jews everywhere.
Wc must marshal our spiritual and material resources for the supremely urgent task of this — the greatest of all previous fund drives.

Local Wom^n to do Their Part in Fund Drive Campaign
Plans were laid for the Wo¬ men's Division of the United Jewish Appeal at a meeting of the steering committee held Tuesday evening at the'home of Mrs. Simon Lazarus, 172 S. Co¬ lumbia Ave., and presided over by this year's chairmen, Mrs. E. J. Gordon and Mrs. Jack Ros¬ ier, with Mrs. Lazarus as vice- chairman.
With the solicitation of funds opening In mid-May, tihe group Issued a call to atrtlon to all Jew¬ ish women in the city, upon whom rests the success of the drive. Mrs. Gordon explained the urgertcy of the need and the Increased effort which will be necessary to achieve an even larger quota than last year, as
well as the responsibility of every Individual woman.
Working Mong with the men's drive, It was stressed that only Independent and sacrificial giv¬ ing on the part of women will make the drive what it is hoped it will be.
"Merely dividing the hus¬ band's gift in two parts Is not what Is tiesired. Giving, froili one's own resources, by giving up sothe luxuries or even neces¬ sities out of one's allowance Is possible for most women, and It Is hoped that It is in this spirit that women will give," said Mrs. Gordon.
The tremendous needs of our people overseas together with the critical situation In Palestine
make It Imperative that we top last year's figures, according to Mrs. Jack Resier.
Among the special committees working for the success of the drive are Mrs. Alfred Kobacker, special gifts; Mrs. Harry Gold¬ berg, Mrs. JRobert Blashek and Mrs. Louis Madison, dinner committee; Mrs. Harry Schwartz, speakers bureau; Mrs. Joseph Schecter, kits; Mrs. Allan Tar¬ shlsh, publicity — who together with the following make up the steering committee: Mesdames Theodore Simson, WHUam Schlft, Harry Kaplan, William Wasserstrom, Allen Gunder¬ sheimer, Sam Schlonsky, Joseph Hoii^;how, Morrey Sher and Leo Kessei.
