MR. HILLEL'S OBITUARY
BY AL SEGAL
Our Mr. Hillel is far from thinking of dying at this time, but, nevertheless, he gave himself to the whimsical idea of writ- . ing his obituary on a recent evening. Mr. Hillel still is in his fifties and has good reason to hope for mariy years more, in accordance with.actuarial tables of the insurance companies and by rea.son of|What the doctors are doing to lengthen the span of a man's life. ^,
Yet on that evening in the quiet of his den (Mrs. Hillel had gone out to play Mah Jong) Mr. Hillel let himself play with a solemn question: What would he like to have said about him in the press when his time comes to go the way of ail flesh, as they say.
He took pencil and paper to write an obituary to his own satisfaction.
(Mr. Hillel,,as should be well known to all the regular read¬ ers, is the president of the Hillel Widget Corp., who, to escape from the drudgery of making so much money out of widgets, writes this column from time to time.)
By the time Mrs. Hillel came obituary. She wou(d have faint home from the Mah Jong game, ed there and then. So he told he had finished writing his obit- her he had been drafting a letter uary. lo a delinquent widget customer.
"What have you oeen writ • The other day he came to my ing?" she asked, having observed tlesk. He laid down a manu- a disarray of writing paper on script. "My obituary!" he said, his personal desk. ( He thought It would make a

(lied the same week I printed your obituary they might say I w'as somehow responsible for your death."
Mr. Hillel assured me he couldn't' die this week. Only last week he had been to his doctor for a check-up and the doctor had said OK.
"For that special reason, Mr. Hlllel, you should be especially careful this week. I haye known a number of gentlemen who died right after their doctors had said OK? I'll print your obituary at your own risk."
Mr. Hillel's obftuary began with the usual vital statistics of obituaries. Then he went on to say that he never did like the obituaries he finds in the gen¬ eral and Jewish press; they are almost always quite inadequate.
"What do they say? They say that a man was'born and went to school and earned a living 'U)oDtlDaed on Pare 4)
