Israel Concludes $4* million l>eal With Ford Company
TEL AVIV, (JTA) — A $1,000,000 agreement was concluded this week between the Israeli government and the American Ford Motor Company, aftsr negotiations lasting for about two months. The agreement provides for the Ford Company to supply motor vehicles to Lsrael. In¬ cluding trucks and passenger cars for private and publir use. Part of the $4,000,000 wiil be paid from the loan which Ihe Israeli Government .secured from the U. S. Exporl-lmport Rank. Other American autorhobile companies. Including General Motors, were reported here as having agreed to similar arrangements. Negollallons are al.w going on-here wilh Ford representatives for the erection of an automobile a.s.sembly plant in l.srael.

¦ DETROIT, (JTA) — Henry Ford II said here tha.t Ihe Ford,Motor Company will start immediate production 'of the approximately $•1,000,000 worth of trucks and buses vvhich have been ordered for shipment lo Israel, In accor¬ dance with Iho agreement with the Israeli Gov¬ ernment which was annouhceil this week. Mr. Forti said that ibe purchase covers approximate¬ ly 1.800 vehicles.

"For this reason. Ford Motor Company Is making a ilfpar'ture from its usuiii commercial policy on sales to foreign govern¬ ments," .Mr. Ford declared. "In this case, our purchase agree¬ ments with Israel specify that an Immediate payment of 40 per¬ cent of the total will be made In dollars from funds Israel re¬ ceives from the Exptft-t-Import Bank. The company will extend credit pn the 60% balance which will be paid In equal an¬ nual Installments over a three year period."
PrelimlTfary discussion lead¬ ing to the order for the Ford products was held In March when Israeli officials inspected the company's production facili¬ ties in Dearborn. Final details were arranged In Tel Aviv re¬ cently In the course of conversa¬ tions between Israeli officials and Walter I.. McKee, Ford In¬ ternational's regional director for Europe and the Middle 'and Near East, Mr. Ford said.
