Eddie Cantor to Speak at U. J. F. Kick-off Dinner
Eddie Cantor,  star  of stage,  screen  and  radio will address the formal  opening of the   I94!>  United  Jovvish  Fund  Campaign   of Columbus at a dinner to be held Monday evening, Apr.  II, at the Winding Hollow Country Club.    The announcement wns made this wccit by Leo 'iTassenoff, general campaign chairman for this year's effort, who, on .short notice from the national United Jewish Appeal office in New 'Vork.City, is rallying local forces foi: the earliest drive in Columbus UJF history. Mr.   Cantor's   enthusiasm   for the rebuilding of Israel as the Jewtsh national home,  his per¬ suasive   abilities,   and   his   fine oratorical powers, have contrib¬ uted   greatly   to.  the   response made by American Jews for the maintenance   of   Jewish   recon¬ struction overseas.
In a statement to the Chroni¬ cle, stressing the Importance of the ig49~ariVer Mr; Yassenoff said:
"The Columbus Jewish com¬ munity must not fall short In this last phase, of the , struggle to establish Israel on a sound, firm basis, through the healthy absorption of himdreds of thous¬ ands of Jewish people who still are outside of Its borders. The Ideal Jews nurtured through the ages was to end the home¬ lessness of a people, and thus restore them once more lb dig¬ nity and national creatlvencss on their own land. Eddie Cantor will be the guest speaker when the 'Wom¬ en's Division of the United Jew¬ ish Fund of Columbus launches Us 1949 campaign, at a noon luncheon Monday, April 11, at the  Southern  Hotel.

Reservations will be limited lo those women who agree to pledge a minimum" of $50 to this year's fund-ralslpg campaign. In order to realize the maxi¬ mum gmounl from the funds collectecl, because of the unprec¬ edented calls which will be made upon the United Jewish Fund tnitr year, a charge of $1.60 Is being" made for each luncheon reservation.

ion this year will be the same women who successfully guided the 1948 drive: Mrs. E. J. Gor¬ don, Mrs. Simon Lasafus and Mrs. J. S. Resler. Chairman of reservations for the Eddie Can¬ tor luncheon Is Mrs. Harry Goldberg, with Mrs. l^ouls Mad¬ ison in charge of arrangements.
