Founded In 1916, with Mrs. Nathan Gumble as its first presi¬ dent, the Council was the first Jewish worhen'a organization in the city to build a broad program of civic activity to promote the best in American democracy together with Us many services on behalf of the foreign born. During 11^ more than a quarter century of existence, these ser¬ vices have met the needs of the ever-changing American scene, under the guidance of the fol¬ lowing presidents: Mrs. Nathan Gumble, Mrs. Lavm-ence Lowen- steln; Mrs. Jerome K o h n (de¬ ceased); Mrs. Robert Levy, Mrs. . Simon Lazarus, Mrs. Harry Goldberg, Mrs. Wm. Schlff, Mrs. Meyer Hoffman, Mrs. Mark Peinknopf, Mrs. Eobert Blashek and Mrs. M. J. Papurt, Incum¬ bent president. In the party.spirit of the oc: caslon next Tuesday, a show of hats and hair styles will be pre¬ sented by the Madison Co., with Council members acting a s models. In addition to the forrrial style show, fashion editors from local newspapers and the direc¬ tor of the Columbus Art Gallery will select the most original as well as the most beautiful hats worn by Council members at the luncheon. Certificates for new hats will be the prizes. Mrs. Sol D. Zell will serve as accompanist for the program. Reservations must be received not later than Saturday morn¬ ing by' Mrs. Morris Fox, DO. 5020. Members have been re¬ quested to bring a bar of soap for the orphanage at Maubuls- Bon. Cantor Katz will stag this Hebrew prayer for the dead, and other litur^cal renditions, Can¬ tor Katz, who wiU also entertain with humorous and Yiddish folksongs, has a. golden voice that Is thrilling to hear. DENIES ISRAEL'S MIM8TER RESIGNED TEL AVIV, (JTA)—A govern¬ ment spokesman has denied that Israel's Minister to Czechoslova¬ kia, Ehud Avrlel, has resigned. In a meeting l^eld Tuesday, December 20th, at the Southern Hotel, the Board of Directors of the United Jewish Fund rff Co¬ lumbus met to approve final allocation of the campaign conducted this year. The total budget distributed $658,203.00 to over 45 de¬ serving Jewish agencies in Columbus, throughout the nation and overseas. Rhlph Lazarus, president of the United Jewish Fund, said in commendation: "I wish to offer my perNonnI thanks and the thanks of the entire coniniunlt)' to the Board members who hove given so untiringly of their time and effort*,, studying requirements of local, national and Intornatlonal .lAwLsh Agencies. While determining allocations, the group worked closely with the National Council of Jewish Federation.s and Welfare Funds which acts as a clearing house for information and the dissemina¬ tion of funds.
