New Center BuHding To Be Started This Year!

NEW   CENTER   BUILDING FEATURES  OUTLINED
The propose^ Columbus Jewlsl^ Center Ap¬ proved by the board, follow? an oUtlin^ for . facilities as recommended by the Jewiph Wel¬ fare Board. The building will enclose in ex- cess-of a million cubic feet, and wlllprovide the following:.
1. CLUB ROOMS and CLASS ROOMS, ade¬ quate to meet the requirements of all the or¬ ganizations in the clty^as well as for the Co¬ lumbus Hebrew SchooI\, A total of 16 rooms, plus general offices, offtsies- for director and a.ss(stant director, reception lounge and check room, are included.
2. AUDITORIUM and BAITlROOM . for community banquets, plays, dances, weddings and receptions, will bQ,66' x 75' with a Stage for amateur productl6iis. The approximate . 4200 square-feet will probably seaf 70o \*en used as an auditorium, and easily acW^iomo- (Jate 500 foi*dlnners.' In addition the kitchen will  be  19'  X 30'  and  adequate  facilities  to
serve meetings up to 1000.

3. GYMNASIUM for youth and adult activ¬ ities will be 5000 square-feet ih area. In ad¬ dition, offices for physical education director and stajX_are provided.
4. HEALTH' CLUB and LOCKER ROOMS will Include hand-ball courts and space ^or youth games. "^

This welcome annoonrement was made by I. W. Garek, presi-. dent of the New Center. He reported that the Board of trustees had approved plans for a $(1.1.5,700* structure, to be erected on Col¬ lege Ave., at the edge of Bexley.

' The building conin|(ltiee, headed" by Abe Yeakln, outlined plans to Include faciUtfts for the Columbus Free Hebrew School, a large gymnaslijm-, Indoor swir^);ning pool, auditorium (with a seating capacity bf at least 70O), ac&mmodatlons for dinner- meetings up to 1,000, and a separate building to feature 12 bowling alleys.
In addition, there will be ade¬ quate office space, lobby, library and a health ciub.
The troard was advised that $520,000 is -now available for the building. This includes $82,000 in .-unpaid pledges, made during - the drive for funds three years ago. These pledges must be collected within the next several months in order to carry out ttie wishes of the board in authoriz¬ ing the building committee to proceed.; 'the motion, made by Harry Gilbert, authorized the building committee to let a con¬ tract for the completion of the .structure, according to the plans presented, but only to the ex¬ tent of funds now available, and to complete the building as ad¬ ditional funds become available. The necessary fund.s In excess' of the $520,000 are in sight, ac¬ cording to a special committee report. These will be forthcom¬ ing (luring the time "the bujiding Is being constructed land wili be used for landscaping, driveways, t)0wling alleys and equipment in the building that can be put in after the construction is com¬ pleted. Announce Program For Joe Weisberg Concert
The Columbus Philharmonic's 80-piece orchestra, conducted by Izler Solomon, will feature Mr. Joseph Weisberg .as piano solo¬ ist Saturday evehing, Feb. 19, at Memorial Hall. The concert Is being sponsored by the B'nal B'rith Women's chapter of Co¬ lumbus, starting at 8:30 p. m. and ending at 10:30. Welsberg will perform after intermission, at 0:46.
