United Jewish Fund Day Labeted Great Success
More than 200 men had agreed to dedicate Sunday, May 17, to the 1953 UJF campaign.
More than thia number served as a volunteer force last Sunday and called upon more than 1200 people during the course of the day. They secured contributions which in many cftses were double and triple the amount aub-scrlbcd  last year.
Spirit and enthusiasm ran high at the breakfast rally which be¬ gan early in the morning and end¬ ed within two hours.
Rabbi   Jerome   Folkman   opened
the meeting with an Inspiring" mes^ sage.
Richard J. Abel, president of the Fund, stated, "This haa been the most successful rally we have had in recent years. It continues the precedent set by all other meet¬ ings held during this campaign. RABBI KAPLAN WILL RECEIVE HONORARY DEGREE AT HUC-JIR
Word has been received that Rabbl Harry Kaplan will receive the honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, at the June 6 exerciser of the Hebrew Union College-Jewlah Institute of Religion In Cincinnati.
The degree will be awarded In recognition of Rabbl Kaplan's out¬ standing service as director at Hlllel Foundation on the Ohio State campus for the past IB years.
B'NAI B'RITH WOMEN INSTALLATION AFFAIR AT ILONKA'S WEDNESDAY
An original musical installation program, written by Mrs. Richard Lieberman .and Mrs. Aaron Zacks, will feature the annual Installation luncheon of B'nai B'rlth Women Wednesday, 12:80 p. m., at Ilonka's Provincial House.
Participating In the program wlll be Mrs. Al Solove, Mrs. Isadore Gurevltf and Mrs. Max Zlsklnd.
Mrs. Milton J. Leeman, past president of B'nai B'rlth Women, will act as Installing officer in the presentation, which Is entitled "Our Garden of Tomorrow."
Mr;s. Harry Kaplan- will give the opening prayer.
Mrs. Louis M. Levin, who served the Columbua Chapter as president during the paat year, will be In¬ stalled as Counselor.

UJF CAMPAIGN CONTINUES
Fred Yenkln, UJF campaign chairman; Jack Resier, chairman of Special Gifts; the three co-chairmen gf the General Solicitation Di¬ vision, Dave Levison, Ira Monroe and Herbert Schlff, and ihe four co- chairmen of the Women's Division, Mesdames R. J. Abel, M. J. Leeman, M. J. Papurt and Herbert Schiff, issued a joint statement:
"The campaign thus far is proceeding with great enthusiasm. Most Ot the cards in all our divisions have already been turned in. People have given generously, but ttiere are many prospects still to be seen.
"We urge every volunteer to work towards a 100% coverage of prospects Immediately. Cards in the Men's Division should be turned in to any of the co-chairmen listed above or sent to UJF office, 55 K. State St.
"Women'a Division cards should be brought to the Jewish Center Tuesday, May 26, or Thursday, May 28. We hope every solicitor will act quickly to complete the campaign."

Troy Feibel. vice-president and last year's campaign chairman, outlined the" needs met by the funds contributed to the campaign. Mr. Feibel was brief and eloquent. Ho stressed the fact that the con¬ tributions cover emergency needs to those thousands of immigrants in larael and rhalntaina the serv¬ ices of our local and national health   and   welfare  agencies.
Messrs. Levison, Monroe and Schiff then outlined the program for the day, and soon all the so¬ licitors were out calling on pro¬ spects.
More than 800 cards were turned In by 3 p. m. Volunteers reported that they were well received by prospects who had been requested to stay home and contributed gen¬ erously. The three co-chairmen ex¬ pressed their thanks {o all their Majors and to the volunteers.

Mike Pcppe, OSU swimming coach, will apeak at the annual in¬ stallation banquet of the Tlfereth Israel Men's Club at Broad St. Temple Wednesday, 8:30 p. m.
Mr. Peppe's record reads like a VVIip's Who ot swimming. He start¬ ed coaching swimming at Ohio State In 1031, when the new nata- torium was completed, and his teams have won eight Western Conference, seven National Inter- coUegilate and 10 National AAU team titles.

Next Thursday everting, 8:30, Pioneer Women'a annual installa¬ tion affair will be held at the Jewish .Center.
Mrs, LouJa Meyers,' the first president o f Pioneer Women's Chapter II in Columbus, will Install the newly-ejected officers.
THEME or THE evening wlll be, "When You Wish Upon a Star," and the featured highlights of the program wlll be those two well- knowh singers of Columbus, Mrs. Sanford Llpson and Mrs. Miriam Polster. They will be accompanied .by Mrs.^ Martin Shenker at the piano.

Sagacious and unbiased political observers, in predicting the win¬ ners ot thft forthcoming B'nai B'rith elections Tuesday night at the Jewish Center, are unanimous in their contention that the candi¬ date who gets the most members to vote at the meeting will be the victor.
The four candidates have prom- iaea of many votes; the final out¬ come will depend upon how many of those pledges are fulfilled.
So   far,   the   pre-election   cere- monies have been typically excit¬ ing. Herbert Cun:imlna and Carl Mellman  are    conducting    cam¬ paigns for the office of guardian (and eventual  presidency of the Lodge),   while   Stanley  Jay  and Arthur    Pollack   ure   candidates for secretary.. Election   night   promises   to   be I colorful   and   dramatic   as   the  hot campaigning reaches its cllmiix.
There's  to  be  free  refreshments (kosher hot dogs and soft drinks). Polls   will   open  at  7:30  p.  ni. and the meeting will  commence at 8:15. A life-long reaident of Columbus, Mr. Jay is married to the former Eva Goldfarb, and has two chil¬ dren.
He graduated from OSU twice and haa degrees in Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of/In¬ dustrial Engineering and also Mas¬ ter of Science.
Mr. Jay has worked on many B*nal B'rlth committees, including membership, entertainment, decor¬ ations, blood donor and UJF.
He is associated with the Elec¬ tric Power & Equipment Co.
